De-clutter!

When preparing your house for sale, sometimes it’s difficult to know where to start. Decluttering can be a good jumping-off point. The key is to remove all unnecessary items from each room. Say it with me: minimalism.

Take away wall fixtures that draw the eye, remove shelves full of knickknacks, declutter your book case, and do away with any footstools or tables that would get in the way as you circle the room.

People are often upsizing and storage space is a big issue. If people see your cupboards and the space under the stairs is jam packed, it will hurt your chances. Empty all your storage spaces as much as possible.

You don’t have to get rid of everything, but try to empty the room as much as possible – decluttering will help your rooms look bigger and more open.

Wondering where to put everything? This is where friends and family come in handy (you knew you kept them around for a reason). Someone else’s garage is the perfect place! If this is not an option, renting a storage space during the selling process can be a good investment.

A decluttered house appears more comfortable and easier for buyers to navigate during their tour, and allows buyers to imagine their own furniture pieces instead of yours.
